I have joined a multinational firm. The good part is that I am going to learn people management while utilizing my technical skills. In other words I need to see technical things with business sight. The Chief Operating Officer of the firm is a very smart and helpful guy.

People management is completely different from box management. You can reboot boxes/systems and make them work. With people there is no room for error.  Boxes are of different colors but humans are in just shades of grey. When you are dealing with people, you have to be very careful. There is no button to reboot. Every statement you say can either have a positive or negative impact. When you are interacting live with people, decisions are made in matter of seconds.

While reading different MBA student blogs, I came across this blog by an MIT student ‘Melis’ http://www.mitadmissions.org/topics/misc/miscellaneous/everybody_loves_a_math_joke.shtml

The thing which really cracked me up was this:

 Maths Joke

It reminded me how I used to solve Integration and Derviation. I still wonder how I passed the Calculus courses.  hehe.

Engineer-ED

March 8, 2008

Engineer-ED! If you are wondering why I have used ED in the end then you may be have to review and brush up your tenses. Just kidding. Actually the moment of wait is over and Yay.!!! I have finally became Engineer. So, Engineering has become a thing of past for me now [:)]. I will definitely never  forget the last four years of my life which I have spent here in Karachi.

I am really happy that I scored 3.48 GPA in final semester examination and 181 marks out of 200 in Final Year Project. Finally, I am entitled to be called an Engineer [:D].

It’s hard to say how they did this but Pakistan Telecom rerouted most of the traffic going to youtube’s website to some other page. Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) released a notice to ban access to Youtube.com. PTA made route changes in BGP protocol  which were updated in other internet databases.

President Musharraf Wins

February 18, 2008

I am glad to say that President Pervaiz Musharraf has done a great job for Election. I would say that the elections were really peaceful. I was really scared of what was going to happen today. But its good to see that the overall atmosphere is quite peaceful. This is a real victory for President Pervaiz Musharraf.

I will be blogging live today while watching some media channels. I will be commenting live on discussions taking place on the media channels. My blogs will be based on my personal views.

While different agencies are claiming that they have done tansparent survey. I  don’t agree with the surveys. No one has ever asked me to take such kind of survey. I believe that the surveys done by certain agencies are not transparent. They are just trying to build pscychological pressure on voters.

The people of Pakistan are voting today. They say that ”We should use our right to vote and bring in those who will do good for the country”. The large majority here is fed up of the same old faces coming back and forth. What if we don’t want any of you running for election? We want someone new.  Someone who is really willing to serve community; not their own missions. After witnessing the flags and billboards throughout Karachi city, I believe elections are all about investment. Probably we should start a “Political Finance” department in our Colleges/Universities.

After having discussions with my friends and social circle, I realized that none of them within the age group of 18-23  are going to vote. This is because of the fact they don’t find any decent candidate who will actually serve them. I personally support President Pervaiz Musharraf. Fatima Bhutto has good leadership skills and she should contest from every region.

Hunt for Business School…

February 18, 2008

Planning to do an MBA was one simple task but getting admitted into the right business school is far more hectic than I expected. After surfing through dozens of websites, I realized that choosing the right school and getting into it can change your life forever.

Aparently, I have to brush up my quantitative and verbal skills for GMAT. The top-tier B-schools are really expensive and financing for your MBA can be next to impossible on your own. For now, I am just concentrating on getting good scores in GMAT and applying to different B-schools.

After more than two weeks of study I appeared for JNCIS exam and passed it with 100% marks. Unlike JNCIA-ER, JNCIS-ER is much more complicated. Its covers alot of topics including BGP, OSPF and other routing algorithms. There was one Task in the paper which was to test how you can implement transition from one routing algorithm to another smoothly.

JUNOS policies was one tough area of the paper. NAT/PAT was also included comprehensively in the test. Thank God I passed the test with 100% marks and I really couldn’t believe it anyway :D . I really wanted to score 100% marks in JNCIA exam. My wish became a reality in JNCIS-ER.
